The Chamois, or Pyrenean mountain goat, weighs between 25 and 35 kilos (55 – 77 pounds) with the height of the withers standing between 70 and 80 cm (27 ½ inches to 31 ½ inches).
Its sight, hearing and sense of smell are extraordinarily good but nothing when compared with its ability to climb sheer slopes, including in ice and snow. This ability is a direct result of the structure of their hooves, specifically the design of the interdigital webbing which helps it to move and maintain balance.
It is precisely this which makes the hunt the perfect challenge for mountain lovers who will, without a doubt, experience a unique and marvelous setting. The harsh terrain and long distance shots provide for a stalk that every hunter should experience at least once in their lifetime, hunting in altitudes of more than 2000 meters (6500 feet) or in colder periods of around 1000 meters (approx 3300 feet).
The best time to locate and bring down the finest specimens is during the mating season from October to November or as a last choice in January.
